Have Your Say: NSW Select Committee on Youth Justice

EPIC invites parents and carers to share their experiences for our submission to the NSW Select Committee on Youth Justice, established 12 Nov 2025. Families’ voices will help drive family‑inclusive support and policy reform.

The Select Committee on Youth Justice was established on 12 November 2025 to inquire into and report on evidence-based approaches to reducing the number of children in contact with the criminal justice system in New South Wales.

EPIC wants to understand where families are included, where they are not, and what would help parents/carers support their young people. Your responses will help EPIC advocate for family‑inclusive policy, information‑sharing, navigation support, and peer support in NSW.

EPIC Community Survey - submissions accepted up until Friday 7 March

Safety & choice:

  • You can skip any question.

  • Please share only what feels safe.

  • This is anonymous unless you choose to add your details at the end.

Time: 10–15 minutes (with an optional long‑form story section at the end).

Care reminder:

Some of the questions in this survey may bring up strong emotions or memories of difficult times. Please take care of yourself as you work through it.

Before you begin, you might like to:

  • Choose a time of day when you feel most settled. Some people prefer the morning so these feelings don’t sit with them overnight.

  • Think about who you could call if you start feeling overwhelmed — a friend, family member, support person, or someone you trust.

  • Have support numbers handy:

    • Parent Line NSW: 1300 130 052 (9am-9pm w/days, 4pm-9pm w/ends)

    • Lifeline: 13 11 14 (24/7)

    • Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636 (24/7)

  • Take breaks at any time, you can pause and return when you feel ready.

  • Notice your body, if you feel tense or unsettled, try a few slow breaths, have a drink of water, or step outside for fresh air.

Please remember:

You can skip any question. You are in control of what you choose to share.

Submission updates will be added to this page.

Thank you! Your responses will help EPIC show what families experience and what support is needed for parents and carers in the youth justice system. We’re grateful you shared your voice.
